Meetings are on the 3rd Wedneday of each month, Sept. through May, at 7:30pm at the Brighton Gardens Assisted Living, on Boroline Rd, in Allendale. Each meeting starts with an informal half hour of snacks and socializing. At 8pm, there is a presentation from a speaker on a topic of interest to gardeners.
During the month of June, the club organizes weekly tours of local gardens. Members receive a list of gardens with descriptions and directions. The tours are on Wednesday evenings. We carpool and usually visit 2 or 3 gardens each week. It’s fascinating to see what talented gardeners are doing in their own yards.
There is one fund raiser a year – the annual plant sale. This is held in May on the lawn of the Allendale Library. Members spend the spring potting up plants from their own gardens to donate, and browsing garden centers for bargain plants to add to the sale. The money raised pays for speakers and for community service projects.
During the summer months there are no meetings, club members volunteer their time to maintain public gardens in Allendale. The Club has planted and maintains the flower garden at the clock island in the center of town, the perennial border at the Allendale Library, foundation plantings at the Post Office and a flower garden at the Fell House.
